This is a review of OwlSet Argon ES 1.9x25 Thermal Imaging Monocular (VEOT-MC08) from Michal Studený.
I would like to share my experience with the Owlset Argon 1.9x25mm, a sophisticated thermal imaging device from Vector Optics. I have been using it since January 2026, testing it primarily during the winter months under various conditions with temperatures ranging from -12°C to +15°C.
Performance and Detection
To be honest, I was very pleasantly surprised by the functionality of this device, especially considering its 25mm lens.
Detection: It can easily identify roe deer or wild boar at 400 meters, and hares or smaller animals at 250 meters.
Identification: For precise identification of game, it works flawlessly up to 200 meters, which covers standard hunting distances.
The device utilizes a high-quality Vanadium Oxide (VOx) sensor paired with an 800x600px AMOLED display. The diopter correction of -5 to +5 is more than sufficient for most users.
Imaging and Durability
The monocular features standard color palettes from White Hot to Blue Hot. I was particularly impressed by the Iron Red mode; it is exceptionally well-calibrated and perfect for specific forest scenarios. However, I personally rely most on the classic White Hot and Black Hot views.
With an IP67 waterproof rating, the device handles humid environments without any issues. The 16GB internal memory provides ample space for long videos and photos. While it does include WiFi functionality, I personally keep it off to conserve battery life.
Battery Life and Charging
The battery life is rated at approximately 5 hours. Although there is a sleep mode, I preferred turning the device off and on again in low temperatures to avoid unnecessary battery drain. Even with frequent cycling (restarting roughly every 2 minutes), I consistently reached the 5-hour mark.
What truly stands out is the charging speed. Whether using a wall outlet or a power bank in the field, charging is incredibly fast. Using a 20,000mAh power bank, it takes about 25 minutes to reach a full charge, so you never have to worry about the device dying during a hunt.
Verdict
The detection remains accurate and reliable even in challenging weather, such as snowing or 95% humidity. I had the opportunity to compare it with a similar device using a different chip type, and I was pleased to find almost no difference in detection quality.
In conclusion, I would like to thank Vector Optics for the opportunity to test this excellent piece of equipment. My testing will continue into the upcoming hunting season.
