Vector Optics VAS™ System Mini-Review by Matthew Vaccaro

2026-04-30

This is a review of VAS™ (Versatile Adaptability Solution) Series from Matthew Vaccaro.

The Vector Optics VAS system is a module red dot mounting platform which is comprised of three mounts with varying heights (low/medium/high) as well as a QD lever, adapter plates for almost all red dot types, and a 45 degree adapter which will allows two different sights to be used on the same mount simultaneously.

The VAS kit is extremely versatile and can accommodate virtually all popular red dot footprints on the market such as the Micro, DeltaPoint Pro, RMR, RMSc, and ACRO  footprints.

The three mounting heights available are excellent for varying usage scenarios when  needing to put a red dot or other compatible footprint device at a low, medium, or high position for the best height preference of the shooter.

My favorite feature of the VAS kit is the ability to add the 45 degree mounting arm which turns the single-red-dot system into a dual-sight-system with just a few easy installation steps. The mounting bases being hollow in the medium and high sizes is also nice if you have iron sights which are short enough to be seen through them.

With this ability I was able to have a very powerfull thermal vision setup for night time varmint hunting using a mini thermal sight with the ACRO plate as well as a side-mounted DPP-footprint micro red dot sight shown below.

The VAS system is very easy to use and setup and only requiring two screws for each plate and two locking screws at the base. The base of the mounts is very solid with good machining and has recoil lugs which will keep the mount in place with larger calibers during heavy firing schedules. This is also useful for larger bore hunting cartridges.

Each adapter plate and 45 degree adapter arms also has a placement and recoil lug to aid in install and its security when installing onto the mount which is a nice addition to the system as well.

The VAS system is not without a few small issues that I would like to see refined over time:

The provided screws for mounting the plates as well as the RUM footprint adapter screws are too long by approximately 1MM in length and had to be filed down before use for a solid lockup on both a Sig Romeo 5 and Holosun red dot sight with RUM adapter plate. The RUM adapter plate’s included mounting screws were also too long as shown below which left the two screws showing beneath the adapter and obscuring the view through the open mount base.

The adapter plates themselves need minor refinements as the DeltaPoint Pro footprint plate was too high/thick for usage after install on any of the mounting heights, and the RUM footprint (Micro footprint) adapter was too long and looked odd when being used on standard-sized red dots like the Holosun 403B or Sig Romeo which are extremely popular in the North American market (shown above).

Also shown above was a standard size back up iron sight which was unable to be used with the highest VAS system mount without removing the sight. Even though the body is hollow, my iron sight was still obstructed by the adapter plate system and the red dot would need  to be removed in an emergency where it stopped working in order to use the back up iron  sights.

Overall I like the VAS system and the direction that Vector Optics has taken with the first generation of these mounts. There is room for improvement but as of now the system is very versatile and will suit the needs of many shooters who are looking for not just a single red dot mounting solution, but also a mount that will allow a 45 degree mount securely connected to the side for the use of a secondary sight.
