This is a review of Tauron 5-25x56 HD MIL FFP Rifle Scope PRS (SCFF-71) from Jani Nordman.
Rebranded Tauron (previous Taurus) scope offering for the PRS market, it’s the more budget-oriented scope for that market. With some surprising positives and expected shortcomings. Let’s have a closer look.
Glass
This was the first very positive finding once I opened the box and had a look through the scope. The glass clarity for the money you’re paying is very good. Is it as good as the top-tier scopes? Of course not, but if this is within your budget, it’s a welcome surprise for anyone thinking of getting this scope. I was testing in daylight and darkness in an illuminated shooting range, and as you can see from the pictures, the quality of the optic is evident.
Having said this it’s not perfect, as one would expect with the price you’re paying, one of the negatives I found is that the eye box is very tiny at full magnification, this is very common with the lower priced scope, but it’s not unusable, it’s just means you have to be very prices with your head placement, this could be a struggle for PRS shooting where you have to be both fast and accurate, this could slow you down a bit, so just be aware of this.

Controls
The elevation turret is large and moves without any locks to it, but this is another positive aspect. The movement is precise, and the click is very positive with an audible click, making adjustments is very easy as the turret moves with just the right amount of resistance. There is, of course, one of the most important features, the zero stop, so you can make your zero be anything you like, then set it via the turret lock, and every time you go to zero, you know exactly where the rounds will go.
The Windage wheel is locked and needs to be first pulled out to make adjustments, same deal as with the elevation, the movement is very clear and precise with an audible click.
Same thing with the three other adjustment wheels, the focus ring is very clear with the marking so it’s easy to set the parallax to the desired distance. The illumination wheel has six illumination settings, with an off setting in between all the levels of illumination. And last but not least, the zoom ring, which has an integrated throw lever (that is removable via screw) to aid in making faster zoom changes.

Reticle
The scope is FFP (First focal plane), which is the ideal setup for long-range shooting as the reticle zooms in and out with the zoom level, meaning the markings on the reticle always mean the same. The reticle itself is clear, markings are precise, with the long-range oriented Christmas tree style reticle, where the middle cross is illuminated, aiding in low light shooting or if you’re aiming at a dark target. The adjustments are in MIL, a preferred set for the metric world.

Build quality
Like with most Vector Optics products, the build quality is excellent, the finish on all parts is on point, and all of the parts with threads move and lock with ease. I like the addition now that the mounting rings have the torque figures printed on the side. I can’t tell you how many wrongly mounted scopes I’ve seen. Having said that, I highly recommend you add the Vector Optics torque screwdriver to your inventory; it's a small investment that can save you so many shots.

Final verdict
For the price you pay, you’re getting a good scope with very good features and build quality. There are some downsides as outlined above, but factoring in the price you’re paying and not having the expectations that this is on par with the best on the market, this is a budget scope with the limitations that brings, if you go with that mindset, you won’t be disappointed. The body is 34mm, which means you get more elevation adjustment, helping you shoot longer distances accurately. Just remember that the scope diameter has nothing to do with the amount of light coming through; it simply allows for a larger adjustment range inside the scope.
