This is a review of Scrapper Red Dot & Paragon Magnifier One Piece Picatinny Mount from Matthew Vaccaro.
The Vector Optics XASR-RM02 mount is a variation of the Spuhr RDF red dot mount and combines the red dot and magnifier into the same mount. The Vector RM02 is a high-height mount putting the red dot at 2.26” over bore for an AR-15 and weighing only five ounces. The RM02 allows the user to place the magnifier much further back on the rifle which solves eye relief issues with modern red dot magnifiers.
The RM02 is a force-to-overcome (FTO) magnifier mount design which means it is constantly under tension and has a bearing-spring-lock at each stowing position. The magnifier has three positions it can be used in: under the red dot (slight offset), in use (inline), and off to the side (offset). The RM02 comes with shims to properly install your red dot and magnifier heights as well as several screws.
The FTO settings are all positive and do not wobble at all. Each position is tight and doesn’t move when the rifle is being used or moved around. The amount of force needed to move it is good and wouldn’t be easy to move with a snag on your gear.
I personally like to keep the magnifier at the lower position when not in use and flip it up when needed. This keeps everything inline and clean on the rifle to avoid having the magnifier offset and able to hit or snag items when shooting or moving.
A bonus feature to the RM02 is that the inside is milled out so that you can use your iron sights if needed without removing the mount while the magnifier is flipped into the offset position.
The RM02 attaches to the picatinny rail with three crossbolts which are round, and the proper size to fit between rail spaces. Unfortunately, the RM02 does not have square-shaped picatinny crossbolts but does include two recoil lug bosses underneath the mount. Having three mounting bolts within such a small mounting footprint will provide enough clamping force for any small caliber rifle recoil.
The Vector Optics XASR-RM02 is an excellent one-piece red dot and magnifier mount which is solid and includes all modern features that shooters have been asking for – and will come in at a price point much less than competitors.
