Review of Maverick-IV 3x22 Magnifier SCMF-35 & Maverick-IV 1x20 SCRD-60

2025-11-07

This is a review of Maverick-IV 3x22 Magnifier SCMF-35  & Maverick-IV 1x20 SCRD-60 from the-answer-is-42.

Alright guys OP the resident Vector Optics junkie here  time for my try at another comprehensive review I promised on the last page after receiving my new rds + magnifier combo from Vector (spin20% still works!). I have owned many red dot and magnifier combinations over the years, and none have stayed on a rifle for long due to various issues with the magnifier. Older 3X magnifiers had bad glass and worse eye relief. Modern 1-4 and 1-6 LPVOs have just been better most of the time.

Since I’ve been purchasing so many Vector product such as the Paragon 3X magnifier, I figured that I would add a new product of theirs to my 9mm PCC build where I am looking for a new red dot and magnifier combination. The Vector Optics Maverick SCRD-60 red dot and Maverick SCMF-35 3X magnifier are a combination of rubber-shell red dot and magnifier that they have just released to compete with other options in the market.

On various configurations I currently have a Holosun 403B, Vortex Crossfire and an additional Vector product I purchased months ago - the SCRD-12II.

The Maverick SCRD60 is a 20mm red dot with a rubberized coating on the outside that utilizes a standard red dot CR2032 battery. This is the same as the other red dots, even not pictured, so that’s a huge plus in sharing batteries. The top-mounted red dot controls are a welcome addition to this model and like the Holosun HS403B which is very well renowned in the under $200 category of red dots.

The Maverick red dot also comes with several cool additions in the package that other red dots in the market do not include for the price - two clear lens flip-caps and a threaded kill-flash ARD. It’s great the Vector includes these in the package like the Aimpoint T2 model does free of charge.

The red dot is a 3MOA size and is very crisp on this model. The glass is clear and tinted on the front lens like many other models. The battery cap is firm and threads on easily, and the rubber adjustment buttons are tactile and easy to use up top.

The Maverick SCMF-35 magnifier is welcome addition to the SCRD-60 red dot when wanting additional magnification. The magnifier features a rubberized coating to match the new Maverick red dot and to be honest is nice when banging around in your safe especially if you’re like me and you’ve ran out of room with rifles stacked on top of each other.

The 3X zoom on the mag is very crisp and clear - and for the price tag of under $100 is extremely competitive with other options in the market. The combination of the 3X magnifier and red dot make an excellent combination for up close and longer-range shooting and target identification.

The Maverick 3X magnifier comes with a flip-to-side tension mount which is very similar in function to the high-end Vortex and Eotech magnifier mounts. The anodizing and hardware are great on this mount and none of it feels cheap or hastily made. The lockup on the rail is solid and the QD lever has a built-in lock, so it does not com disengaged accidentally. All around excellent quality for the price on these Vector products.

The glass quality is very good on the Maverick magnifier as it is with all Vector products. I have on hand a Vector Paragon model magnifier (higher retail price) in 3X and you can see in the below comparison the glass on both models is very clear but with a slight variation in magnification and field of view between them both – with slightly more FOV going to the Maverick model.

Overall, both products were once again exceptional and didn’t leave much to be desired. The only negatives I found about the red dot was that the windage and elevation caps were hard to remove due to the height of the rubberized wings around them. The height is great for protection but makes them a bit tough to unscrew. Nothing was physically an issue on the magnifier, but the eye relief is a bit short at the stated 2.76” so you will need to use it all the way back on a top rail. All said, I would recommend this combination from Vector Optics if you are looking for a red dot and magnifier combination.
