You get what you pay for. It should always be taken into consideration when buying anything. There is a saying in my country, "For one euro, you get a one euro product." So, with this in mind, let's have a look at the new Grizzly 3-12x56i Fiber SFP Rifle Scope MPVO (SCOM-49).
This is a no-thrills, easy-to-use scope; you get the basics of everything. There is no added complexity, so this could be a good option for a beginner hunter or maybe a younger hunter, as there is nothing complicated with this scope.
Glass
Keep in mind that this is a budget-priced scope, the glass is excellent, not the same level as some of the clear glass you get with the top of the scale, but good enough for low light shooting, the level of clarity is enough for the scenarios you're legally allowed to hunt in.
It obviously is not as edge-to-edge as the eyepiece, but you're not paying top money, so this is to be expected. The good news is that there are no distortions on the side of the glass, and no other weird artifacts or color shifts are visible. See the pictures below for reference to the glass quality.
You get a 56 mm objective lens diameter, so you gather a lot of light. Just remember the glass is budget glass, so optical clarity is just okay, not spectacular, but you do get a brighter image.
Just remember, at this price, you get the punishingly small eye box. I tried to capture this in some videos below.
Features
As mentioned, you get just the basics; there is no parallax wheel (parallax set at the factory to 100m), no zero stop. But you get a small throw lever in the box, capped turrets, so you don't accidentally mess up your zero with 1/10 MIL adjustments with a click adjustment so adjusting is clear and precise.
There are also tall scope rings. If these don't work for your setup, have a look at the X-Accu range from Vector Optics for 30mm offerings, and you'll find one that works. The best part of the scope is the super-bright fiber dot that works with a CR2032 battery; more of that in the reticle part of the review.
Build quality
Like with most Vector Optics products, the build quality is good, the finish on all parts is on point, and all of the parts with threads move and lock with ease. Just remember the scope is made from 6063-T6, which means it's not as robust as the top of the line, so remember to be extra careful when handling the scope, and when mounted, don't drop it! The scope is waterproof with a rating of IP65, meaning you're covered from dust and water, so no problem while hunting in the rain or dusty environments.
Reticle
The scope is SFP (Second focal plane), which is the ideal setup for fast shooting, as the reticle always stays the same size. The reticle itself is super simple, as you get just the lines, and in the middle, you get a super bright fiber dot, aiding in fast shooting. Final verdict
For the price you pay, you're getting a good scope. There are some downsides as outlined above, but factoring in the price you're paying and not having the expectations that this is on par with the best on the market, this is a budget scope with the limitations that brings. If you go with that mindset, you won't be disappointed. The body is 30mm, so there are many aftermarket options for mounting.
