This is a review of Frenzy FLEX 24x29 6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-77) and Frenzy FLEX 24x29 CDT 2&6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-C77) from Facebook by Jani Nordman.
This will be a two-part review as there are two models of the new big window, tiny footprint red dot!
Best of both worlds? You get a massive 24 x 29 mm window in the footprint that Vector calls MGT, but you might know as Shield RMS. I’d say so.
When I suggested vector make this optic a year or so ago, I was told that the body would be too small for such a big window to make it feasible, but some magic was made, and here we are! A true competition red dot for those who need a small footprint, low weight, but need the absolute competitive advantage that a bigger window brings. This might be it for you. Will it work for EDC? Sure, but as you can see from the photos, it’s quite wide.
The glass
The window is BIG! I mean 24 x 29mm big. Like with the other new models, the window is aspheric, so you get less blue(ish) tint, there is a tiny bit of distortion at the edges, but not enough to be too noticeable when shooting. I’ve not had issues with the new GenII models when it comes to the window and it’s usefulness in competitions.
Housing
Nice that the new norm is the 7075-T6 aluminum; this is good news for those fearing that if they drop their gun, the optic will surely be destroyed, but as 7075-T6 is almost twice as strong as the previous models made from 6061-T6, the chances of the optic being damaged are much lower. I like that this model removes any extra bulk, there is enough to be strong and rigid, but it’s not bulky, weight is really good at 41 grams.
This model also doesn’t come with a rubber cover for the dot, why vector? I have no idea; they must not cost more than a few cents to make, and every other smaller open dot comes with one. Why is the cover important, not just to protect the red dot while transporting but for any competitive shooter who waits for their turn to shoot and it’s raining, the red dot in a holster becomes a spoon for collecting water and when it’s their turn to shoot you’ll have a starburst of dots in the glass. Also, the cover is very useful when cleaning the gun, so you don’t get dirt, oil, or any other material in the emitter or glass.
Also good to have the dot covered in the gun safe, so the dot doesn't just collect dust. I’ve raised this point to Vector Optics, so let’s see if we get one in the future. For now, I suggest you use something else to cover the dot in the meantime with a DIY solution.
Key features
There are, as expected, the usual features that we now take as granted, big buttons for brightness control, and the brightness being bright enough for outside use in sunlight. Auto shutoff with shake awake. Battery compartment on the side (that looks like a frog), taking a CR1632 battery, for those not too familiar with red dots, why is this important, well not the frog part, but the side compartment, it means that when you need to change the battery, you don’t have to remove the red dot from the gun to change the battery at the bottom like you used to have to do with many models, this would be a really bad thing if you’d have to do it during competition as the dot never returns to zero this could cost you the whole competition.
Note, even though they look the same, this is not the Deltapoint Pro footprint, and while you might be able to cram it into a DPP footprint it’ll not result in secure fit and might cause issues in the long run.
The two models Frenzy FLEX 24x29 6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-77) & Frenzy FLEX 24x29 CDT 2&6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-C77)
Two different models are being offered. The Frenzy FLEX 24x29 6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-77) is just a 6 MOA dot, straightforward, no changes, just a crisp, solid dot. The more interesting model is the Frenzy FLEX 24x29 CDT 2&6MOA Red Dot Sight (SCRD-C77) this has both 2 MOA dot and 6 MOA dot on the same red dot. This is the winner for me now, as there are two camps of shooters. The people who prefer the bigger dot and the ones who prefer the smaller, now you can have both and this not only gives you better choice over going bigger or smaller on the same competition, but it gives you better options over platforms, want to use the same dot one day on a pistol? Yes, put it on fast mode with 6 MOA dot. Next week need to have it on a PCC (pistol caliber carbine), sure put it on accuracy mode of the 2 MOA dot.
I’ve tried to highlight the different dots in the pictures, but it’s not that easy to get the real-life experience from the photos, so if you get a chance to test one in a shop or from a friend, have a look at it yourself!

There is now two red dots same window size, but with different size footprint, you can see from my photos the size difference, if you have both footprints available in your platform I’d argue to get the new MGT (Shield) footprint as it’s lighter and thus won’t affect recoil or require modifications to the recoil spring (but consult the manufacturer of the platform to confirm). But both red dots are very good for the competition scene or for anyone wanting a red dot with a bigger window.
Final words
These two models will be big sellers, I’m super exited to now have a 2 MOA and a 6 MOA dot on the same red dot, just by pressing the plus button I can go from one to the other, also there are a lot of shield footprint red dot ready weapons out there and people wanting a bigger window, there has been a wide window offerings from competitors, but not really a tall window ones!
I bet this’ll sell a lot in the competition scene! Stay tuned for other new releases.
