Review of Tauron 5-50x60 ED SFP Rifle Scope by José Garcês Soares (SCOL-69)

2026-05-26

This is a review of Tauron 5-50x60 ED SFP Rifle Scope (SCOL-69) from José Garcês Soares.

The Vector Optics Tauron 5-50x60 ED SFP SCOL-69 is clearly a scope developed for a very specific audience: precision shooters looking for the highest possible performance in disciplines such as Benchrest, F-Class, Field Target, and long-range precision shooting. It is not a scope designed for hunting or general recreational use. It is a competition tool, built to operate at the limits of precision.

Right from the first contact, it is immediately noticeable that we are dealing with a robust piece of equipment built for intensive use. The 34 mm tube, 60 mm objective lens, and nearly 1 kg of weight clearly show that the focus here was not lightweight design, but mechanical stability, adjustment range, and optical quality.

1. Construction and Robustness

The Tauron features an extremely solid construction, with an IP67 certification, ensuring resistance against water and dust, including the ability to withstand submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. In addition, it offers shock resistance up to 1000G, something particularly relevant for those using spring-powered air rifles, known for their aggressive two-way recoil.

During practical testing, the feeling transmitted was exactly that: an extremely robust and solid scope, clearly prepared to withstand demanding use without compromising adjustment repeatability.

The length is 402 mm without the sunshade, and the weight is approximately 951 g, characteristics perfectly acceptable for a scope exclusively oriented toward competition.

2. Extreme Magnification Up to 50x

The biggest highlight of this Tauron is undoubtedly its variable magnification range from 5x up to 50x.

Any experienced user knows that above 40x, optical problems usually begin to appear: loss of sharpness, chromatic aberrations, reduced brightness, or difficulty maintaining a clean and usable image.

This is exactly where the Tauron impresses.

Even at 50x magnification, the image remains extremely clean, sharp, and stable. In tests carried out at 25 m, 112 m, and approximately 200 m, the optical quality proved to be surprisingly good, with excellent target definition, high contrast, and virtually no distortion or haze.

The brand uses Japanese ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass, developed to minimize chromatic aberrations and significantly improve image sharpness. In addition, the lenses feature Fully Multi-Coated treatment and LaREE HD technology, allowing a claimed light transmission of up to 92%.

In practice, this translates into a bright and highly usable image even when exploring the maximum 50x magnification.

3. Reticle VCO-5 MIL in Second Focal Plane

The scope uses a VCO-5 MIL reticle in the second focal plane (SFP).

This means that the reticle size remains constant regardless of the magnification used, something highly appreciated by many Benchrest and F-Class shooters.

The reticle is extremely clean, fine, and specifically designed for precision shooting. The highlight is the illuminated center dot of only 0.05 MIL, extremely small and precise, allowing accurate aiming without covering the target, even on very small Benchrest target centers.

The illumination system features 6 intensity levels and, between each level, there is an intermediate OFF position. This greatly improves practical usability, avoiding the need to rotate the turret completely whenever turning the illumination off.

Power is supplied by a CR2032 battery.

4. Ultra Fine 0.05 MIL Adjustments

One of the most impressive aspects of this scope is the adjustment system.

While most scopes use 0.1 MIL clicks, the Tauron uses ultra-fine 0.05 MIL clicks, equivalent to 1/20 MIL per click.

In practice, this allows extremely precise adjustments, essential in disciplines where even the smallest deviations make all the difference.

The clicks provide excellent tactile and audible feedback, very defined and consistent, transmitting a clearly premium feeling during use.

The elevation turret offers approximately 23 MIL of adjustment, while the windage turret provides around 18 MIL.

5. LRZ System: Zero Stop, Turret Lock & Revolution Indicator

The Tauron incorporates Vector Optics’ LRZ system, which integrates:

  • Zero Stop

  • Turret Lock

  • Revolution Indicator

In practice, this system allows the turrets to be locked to prevent accidental adjustments, quickly return to a previously defined zero, and visually monitor the number of revolutions made on the elevation turret.

The operation is quite interesting and different from many conventional scopes. The top turret must be manually unlocked before making adjustments, ensuring additional security during transport or competition use.

For those practicing disciplines such as Field Target, where adjustments are constantly made throughout the match, this system becomes extremely useful.

6. Parallax Adjustment from 10 Meters

Another important point is the side parallax adjustment ranging continuously from 10 meters to infinity.

The operation is smooth, without fixed positions, allowing extremely precise fine-tuning, something particularly important at high magnifications, where depth of field becomes very limited.

Vector also provides specific side wheels for this model, something especially interesting for Field Target shooters.

7. Practical Experience

During practical tests carried out with a Scope Cam, the Tauron demonstrated truly impressive optical quality.

Even in low-light conditions or with direct sunlight, and while using the full 50x magnification, the image remained clean, free from relevant distortions, without visible chromatic aberrations, and with excellent definition.

The small illuminated center dot proved extremely effective on Benchrest targets at 25 meters, allowing an exceptionally precise aiming reference without obscuring the target center.

The overall feeling is clearly that of a scope developed specifically for serious competition use.

9. Conclusion

The Tauron 5-50x60 ED SFP Rifle Scope SCOL-69 is an extremely specialized scope clearly aimed at competitive precision shooting.

It does not try to be versatile or universal. The entire project was developed around absolute precision, offering:

  • Extreme magnification up to 50x

  • Excellent optical quality

  • Ultra-fine 0.05 MIL adjustments

  • Advanced turret system

  • Extremely robust construction

  • Competition-oriented reticle

For those seriously involved in Benchrest, F-Class, or Field Target shooting, this Tauron presents very strong arguments and clearly positions itself as one of Vector Optics’ most interesting offerings in the high-precision segment.

On the other hand, for recreational shooting, hunting, or plinking, it would clearly be an excessive and probably underutilized solution.

It is a scope made for those seeking extreme precision and wanting to explore the full potential of competitive shooting.
