This is a review of Tauron 5-25x56 HD MIL FFP Rifle Scope PRS (SCFF-71) from José Garcês Soares.
Guys, today I’m bringing you a more complete and technical review of this scope that I had the opportunity to test in several scenarios: the Vector Optics Tauron 5-25x56 HD MIL FFP (SCFF-71), a scope clearly designed for PRS and precision shooting at medium to long distances.
I’ll try to keep it straightforward, but at the same time go deeper into the aspects that really matter when choosing a scope at this level.

General overview
First of all, it’s important to mention that this line was rebranded from Taurus to Tauron, but this wasn’t just a name change. There is a clear evolution in the product, both in terms of construction and features.
We’re looking at a first focal plane (FFP) scope, with a 34 mm tube and a feature set that places it firmly in the PRS category.

Build quality and architecture
In terms of construction, this scope is very well executed.
The 34 mm tube is not just for looks. It significantly increases the internal adjustment range, especially the 32 MIL of elevation, which is crucial for long-range shooting.
The 6061-T6 aluminum construction provides rigidity and durability, and the IP67 rating, combined with nitrogen purging, ensures protection against water, dust, and internal fogging.
In practice, this is a scope that can handle demanding conditions without compromising performance.
Optical system and image quality
This is one of the most important aspects.
This scope uses LaREE HD glass with Fully Multi-Coated (FMC) lenses. In practical terms, this means good light transmission and a clear, sharp image from edge to edge.
During my tests, even in lower light conditions, I was able to maintain a usable image with enough contrast and clarity to identify targets accurately.
The optical quality is not just “good for the price”. It is genuinely solid within its segment.
VTA-8 MIL reticle (FFP)
The reticle is one of the key features of this scope.
We’re looking at a Christmas Tree-style reticle, with:
0.25 MIL subtensions
A very fine 0.05 MIL center dot
An illuminated center crosshair up to 1 MIL
Being in the first focal plane, all measurements and references remain accurate at any magnification. This is essential for shooters who rely on holdovers instead of dialing.
In practice, it allows:
Fast elevation and wind corrections
Range estimation
Efficient shooting in dynamic scenarios (PRS)
It’s not a “clean” reticle, but it’s not meant to be. It’s a working tool.
Turrets and adjustment system
This is where the scope really stands out.
The turrets offer:
1/10 MIL clicks
Very consistent tactile and audible feedback
Zero Stop system
Windage turret lock
Elevation revolution indicator
Tracking is reliable and predictable, something I confirmed during testing. The clicks are firm, with no play, allowing precise adjustments even without looking at the turret.
The direction indicators and revolution counter are small details that make a big difference in real-world use.

Parallax and ergonomics
The side focus parallax adjustment is smooth and covers everything from close distances to infinity.
Overall ergonomics are well thought out:
Good texture on controls
Easy to operate, even with gloves
Included throw lever for magnification
All of this contributes to fast and intuitive handling.
Real-world performance
In field testing, the scope performed consistently.
I worked at different magnifications and distances (from around 25 m to over 50 m), and the response was always predictable. The reticle makes corrections intuitive, and the optical quality helps with target identification.
Even with changing light conditions and some wind, the scope remained reliable and effective.
Points to consider
Weight: not lightweight, but expected for this category
Reticle: may feel busy for beginners
Brand perception: still some bias in the market, although increasingly outdated
Final thoughts
My opinion is quite clear.
This scope is very well positioned in the entry to mid-level PRS segment. It delivers:
Solid optical performance
Excellent turret system
Functional and technical reticle
Robust construction
And all of this at a very competitive price.
If you’re looking for a precision shooting scope with advanced features without spending a fortune, this is definitely a very strong option.
From my side, it gets a solid approval.
