Vector Optics Frenzy 1x24x29 GenII review:

(Disclaimer: VO sent this red dot out to me for free, but that doesn't buy a dishonest review)

Size -  Figured I'd get this out of the way, as this thing is BIG. It's squarely aimed at competing with dots like the Vortex Defender XL and Holosun 507 Comp. I was hoping it would be carryable, but unfortunately, it's a little too big for that. Granted, it's not what Vector Optics was intended for it. It's obviously designed for competition, or in my case, home defense. Because the battery is side loaded, the base is thicker than what I'm used to with bottom loaded options, and the height over bore is fairly significant. This requires some accommodations when 7 yards and in for hold-over, but easy to train through.

Dot clarity - The dot being a 6 MOA automatically makes it a little clearer for me than a comparable 2 or 3 MOA. Larger dots seem to be clearer for me by default. It's a crisp, clear dot with PLENTY of brightness. No complaints here.

Glass clarity - People seem to get wrapped up in glass clarity, but honestly, I couldn't care less as long as it's transparent. My dots typically have lint, dirt, oil, and shmutz covering them anyway, so it's not a big deal to me. That said, the glass seems to be clear enough with no complaints.

Parallax - I don't own a dot without a little parallax, and this one is no exception. With the dot at the edges of the glass, zero is off by roughly 2-3 inches at 15 yards which is fully acceptable IMO.

Durability - I didn't perform any kind of major durability testing with this dot other than racking it off a 2x6 a few times, but I certainly wasn't gentle with it. I intend for this one to live on my G45, which is my "bedside" option, so I expect it to take some minor abuse at least. All in all, the housing seems fully sufficient to take a mild beating and keep working.

Accuracy - Well, the picture is worth 1,000 words. I've got roughly 550 rounds though this one and the zero is still absolutely perfect. The image shown is also with reman ammo, so to have this accuracy is really impressive!

Price - This is a sore spot for me... The majority of popular red dots on the market today are NOT WORTH THE PRICE! A few months ago, I bought a 3D printer that has exponentially more technology and 50 times the materials required to build a quality red dot. Yet I paid about the same amount for it that some of these competition dots are going for today. They are simply overpriced and we shouldn't be subjected to this gouging! With this dot being found for less than "2 big ones", it fits squarely into a category where we're paying a "fair price" for a quality product. I'll get off my soapbox now....

Conclusion - I took this G45 out of my bedside lockbox to mount this dot and try it out. After putting over half a case through it, it has earned it's way back into that safe this past week because I TRUST IT. I will continue to run it weekly to ensure it's dependability, but if it's anything like the other 8 VO optics I own, I have zero doubt that it will continue to keep it's place in that lockbox.
