Review of Scrapper 1x25 solar red dot and Paragon 3x magnifier

The official release
2022-10-18 10:14:14 303 0

This will be two in one review, Scrapper 1x25 solar red dot (SCRD-SM46) and Paragon 3x magnifier(SCMF-33). Very good combination.

I’ll start off with the Scrapper, this is the new version with a solar cell on top and three different red dots, you have just the regular simple dot, a circle with a dot, and just a circle without the dot in the middle. The SCRAPPER is the top line of Vector Optics on the tube-style red dots, and it shows as you are getting more for the money. First off you get three options for the reticle, I prefer the circle red dot over just a dot as it gives you better target acquisition and more points to adjust aim for close-range shooting.

The scope housing is made from durable aluminum and seems to be impact resistant (for this there is a video on Vector Optics YouTube channel where the durability is tested) I haven’t done extensive testing of the durability yet, but this will live on my competition gun for the foreseeable future and this part will be tested extensively, I shall report if anything breaks in the future.

The solar panel is a welcome addition to the scope as it dramatically improves the battery life and, in some instances, if you run out of battery you can still use the scope in daylight, but obviously not in dusk or darkness.

The clarity of the glass is OK, not crystal clear, but not tinted too much to hinder low light operations too much, red dot itself is very clear and with no distortion or smudged edges. The price is a little bit more than other Vector optics, but is the more money worth it? Well yes, in my opinion, you’re getting good features for the added cost.

Once the red dot is installed with the included tool, there are no more tools needed, as the windage and elevation adjustments are made with the protective cap, which has a handy flat-head screwdriver built into it, adjustment clicks are tactile and audible, and after a few hundred rounds of .223, it holds zero with no issues.

Pros

+ Robust build

+ Solar panel

+ Three different reticles

+ Lifetime warranty

Cons

- Glass clarity could be better

- Buttons little bit hard to press

With the SCRAPPER I paired it with a PARAGON 3x magnifier, this is a very good companion to any red dot or prism scope. As with other paragon products the clarity of the glass is excellent. Build quality is once again good. The mount that makes the magnifier flip to the side is well-engineered. When the magnifier is in the top position it's securely fixed in place with no wobble or movement. When you want to move the magnifier out of the way the push button is located on the left and is easily accessible, once pressed the top assembly spring to the side and stays there held in place by a spring, with just the right amount of tension so that it doesn’t jump around but is still easy to flip back into position when needed.

What would be a good addition to the magnifier is a quick-release mount, now if you want to remove the magnifier you have to use a Torx tool to remove the mount.

For the money, you’re getting a solid magnifier that can hold its own against even the top brands. There are two levels of magnification available, 3x and 5x so you’ll be able to find one that suits your needs.
