This is the review of Continental x6 2-12x44 RAR Rifle Scope (SCFF-69) from Jani Nordman.
New Continental!
These are always exciting, as we who have used Continental know it’s a good option if you’re looking for quality glass at a reasonable price.
What makes this version different and worth a review? Well, it’s a very interesting collection of features that, at least, I find to be worthwhile and good selling points for multiple use cases. Let’s run through some of these features.
RAR!
No, not the big cat sound, but the Rapid acquisition ring. What this means is that you get on the 2x to 6x a Ring that is illuminated, helping you to target faster. Please take a look at the pictures for a more illustrated view of this feature. But for anyone who's looking for a good zoom range on a competition rifle, this is a great option if you pair it with a short-range offset red dot, maybe? Who else could use this? Well, I think this would be a great scope for hunting.

Glass and housing
As with all continental line, you get super clarity with the glass, guaranteed to exceed 90% light pass through. I’ve put Continentals previously up against some 2x 3x the price scopes, and the Continental scopes have held their own against the competition very respectfully. So that is what you pay for, quality cost, but in this case, you’ll get a lot for your money. The eye box on this model is pretty good. I’ll add a video where I try to demonstrate the eye box range on 2x and full magnification, so you get an idea of what to expect.
The housing is a 34mm tube size, and no, this doesn’t have anything to do with the amount of light transmission; it just means you have more inside space for adjustments, and with this model, you get a very respectable 63MIL on the vertical travel. Made from 6061-T6 aluminum so it won’t bend or break as easily as some cheap scopes.
FFP vs SFP
What do these weird FFP and SFP mean? Well, a very quick explanation, FFP(First focal plane) is where the reticule is etched on the first plane on the scope, and thus the crosshair becomes bigger when the magnification is enhanced, SFP (Second focal plane), the crosshair remains the same no matter the magnification. So this is where the RAR (ring) comes handy as usual with FFP scopes on the low magnification the center part of the scope is tiny and hard to focus, but with the ring you’re faster in getting the crosshair on target, and it get out of the view once you get passed 6x magnification.
Key features
Some things to highlight is the zero stop, this is one of those once you have a scope with it you can’t go back, as it’s simple as zeroing the rifle to your favorite distance setting the zero stop, then whenever you’re not sure where the rifle setting are, just scroll the turrets back until they stop and you know its at you’re set zero, super handy. Turrets, focus wheel, and illumination wheels are sturdy and high quality. My favorite part of the illumination ring is that you get an off position between all the illumination levels, and best of all, auto shut off! Finally, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left my scope's illumination on while it was sitting on the gun safe, and next time at the range, my battery was dead, now after 6 hours, it turns itself off. I hope this feature is now the new norm for all products that use scroll wheels for illumination adjustments.
34mm line
What I now like about the 34mm line, the amount of accessories you have from vector is so good that you can make the setup fit your needs in any situation, you can see from my pictures I paired it with the mount adapter and added a red dot, so if you want you can have a red dot on top or 45 off set. I paired it with the 34mm cantilever mount, which worked perfectly on my AR-15. So you can have a look at the vector optics website for other accessories you can have for the 34mm line. I’ll add links at the bottom for all the accessories I used for my setup if you want to straight up copy it.
Final thoughts
I think this offers a good compromise scope, for those who don’t want an LPVO with a 1x as it doesn’t work with everyone’s eyes, and for those who want good magnification but not the added weight of a full-on high magnification scope. For me, the RAR reticule is a good addition and helps to sell this scope to people looking to use it in fast-paced shooting. But there is also the same scope available without the rapid acquisition ring.
