The Review of Constantine 1-10x24 Fiber Dot Reticle Scope

The official release

Alright I'm back with another Honest review of the Vector Optics Constantine 1-10x24i(SCOC-35).

Full Disclosure: Vector Optics did send me this scope to review, but did not give me any talking points or instructions on how to review the optic.

Due to the holidays it took me a few weeks to actually get around to even unbox the optic let alone put it on a rifle to test. To be honest when I was asked to look at this particular offering in the Constantine line I was hesitant. On paper it has all the same specs as the last 1-10 Constantine I reviewed (which I love) with one major glaring problem. The Reticle... But we will get to that.

First we will start with the construction. Just like the other Constantine I reviewed, the optic is very well made. Feels sturdy though a little on the heavy side but that's not necessarily a negative. This is a bit heavier than other LPVO scopes on the market with the same magnification, due to the reason that 1-10x is among the larger magnifications in LPVO. This results in more lens set in the optics and therefore an increased weight. Another disadvantage is that the tube needs higher rings would better fit on this gun. If you have a specific height, consider other heights of rings to mount.

The turrets are capped and the optics dose come with 1 exposed turret that can be installed for adjusting elevation on the fly. I wish it came with another so windage could have the same as well but it's not that much of a issue. Adjusting the turrets has a good tactile feel to them. You have small but audible clicks but feels firm. Though the turrets do not have mil clicks it's not needed for this optic. The brightest control for the reticle is nice as well.

Firm feel with solid adjustment levels that are hard to miss. The zoom is actually quite stiff on this particular optic. It's not a bad thing but it does make you work a little harder to change your zoom.

Next let's talk about the glass. As with the other Constantine the glass is VERY clear with little distortion. It Easley rivals if not surpasses other major brand names like Vortex while being at a lower price point than many of their similar offerings. The eye relief is pretty forgiving especially at 1x however there is a slight distortion around the edge of the sight picture. Once you zoom in that distortion seems to reduce. In both scenarios it's not too noticeable and doesn't affect your operation. The illumination is daylight bright with cloud cover on the lowest setting and full sunlight bright on the brightest setting.

Next let's talk about the Reticle... Now this is where all of my issues with this offering lies and to me it's biggest weakness. You see even though this LPVO is a 1-10x it only has a basic crosshair reticle with a single illuminated dot. For me this is insufficient for an optic that can zoom in to 10x. UNLESS you pick the right rifle and cartridge for this optic. You see without any hold over hashes its difficult to figure out hold over at longer ranges. This limits the accuracy of the optic at range. Now this is not as big of an issue if you use it with a rifle that's not ment to be shot long range. This is where my rifle choice comes into play. For a optic set up like this it's best suited for a PCC (Post Caliber Carbine) where most of the time your going to stay within the 1-4 power zoom range.

I chose to equip it onto my newly acquired AR-45 from Macon Armory. In my eyes this is where this optic comes into its own. On a PCC you can stay inside the 1-4x zoom range for the majority of your shooting. This is enough zoom for many skilled shooters, many of which can reach out to 4-600 yards accurately. For this the optic runs great. 1x allows for quick target acquisition while having a good field of view. The lower recoil of the PCC aids this even farther. The presence of the crosshair means even without power you can still operate unlike most red dots. If you are feeling a little froggy you can kick the zoom up to 10x and test you ability shooting pistol cartridges at long range.

This next platform that this optic will work good on are intermediate and big bore cartridge rifles that aren't meant for long or extended range shooting. This includes rifles chambered in. 7.62x39, 300 blackout, 30-30 Winchester, 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, 458 socom, 50 Beowulf, 45-70 ECT. These are all cartridges that you're never willingly going to try and reach out past 400 yards with and that's about where this optic runs out of legs. If only it had a few hash marks for elevation, it would have far more uses.

In my shooting the optic held zero well on the ar-45. Though 45acp is not a heavy recoiling cartridge especially in a Carbine. During my testing I did not have to re-confirm zero even with lots of rapid fire and mag dumps. This optic would also preform well in shooting competition.

Now I'm going to go over the pros and cons.

Pros:

Reasonable priced

Great quality in comparison to competition

Clear glass

Excellent light transmission

Firm tactile controls

Very bright retical

Reliable (in my experience)

Cons:

Rings may not fit on your gun

On the heavier side of LPVOs

Larger and bulky compared to the competition

A retical style that limits use

Overall I give it a solid 4.2 out of 5.

It's definitely worth the money if your putting it on a specifically aimed load out with my only point of contention being the retical. This would make a great brush gun or hog hunting optic or competition sight.

I should have a video coming up on my YouTube on the Constantine 1-10x24i soon. I hope this was helpful for you if you were looking at one of these.
