My "Does it All" Sight
I will begin by describing what it was I was looking for in a sight, before I get into talking about this one. In short, I wanted a sight that could function as a CQ sight as well as provide longer range (say +500yds) if needed. Normally, this is not something a lot of companies provide and the closest you'll find usually comes in the form of a "Scout" platform. To me, the optimum would be a 1-8x or a 1-10x. These types of scopes tend to be a rare item and when you do find one (eg: Nightforce has a 1-8x) and price/cost notwithstanding; they tend to make them with a 24mm tube or just slightly larger, which means at CQ and 1x your FOV (field of view) is lessened, when compared with a typical red dot say. My goal was to give a bit better function to a DMR type rifle by adding good CQ capability all from 1 sight/scope. The Artemis is that scope... The Artemis has a significantly larger tube than nearly all of it's competition that I am aware of and the result is a much greater field of view at CQ (and obviously at 8x, as well). The generation of sight that I received is the later one and has a really nice feature to the illuminated settings, which is a off position for every brightness level, very handy. The recticle is a standard MIL which has the ranging graduations; again excellent choice versus others; and the click settings at 1/10 MIL give you nearly twice the adjustment level versus most of it's competition too. The scope is extremely well built and the glass is very clear (I have no edge distortion at any power range on the two scopes I have). My only complaints with this scope, is it's weight (but considering the tube size and not having to compliment it with the weight of a red dot, it's an acceptable thing), I also wish Vector Optics offered a sunshade for it and for some instances I wish the reticle had maybe 3 or so "green" illumination settings (which sometimes work better when you're working in certain terrain. Those three items aside, I think this is a fantastic scope for the money and I still may buy a couple more as time goes on here. Combine the very full features and capability of this scope along with the really good support I received from the team at Vector Optics and it makes for probably the best scope(s) I have ever owned. It is just an excellent buy. PS I did upgrade the mounts that come with it, with a Vector Optics cantilever one piece mount, which compliments this scope very well.
